About Us

We provide 24 hour, 365 days a year accident and emergency services to those in need of emergency medical treatment and transport in - Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Essex, Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire.

We also provide non-emergency patient transport services for patients needing non-emergency transport to and from hospital, treatment centres and other similar facilities and who can't travel unaided because of their medical condition or frailty.

Within the east of England, we deliver the patient transport services in Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, north, south and west Essex.

Join the team

There are so many opportunities to join EEAST as either an employee or as volunteer

Every role is important, as everyone plays a part in meeting our vision - to provide an innovative, response, excellent service which is always community focused and patient driven.

Work with us

You're thinking about working for the ambulance service, but wondering what sets us apart and makes the six counties of Essex, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Suffolk, Norfolk and Cambridgeshire so special.

In short, our region has got just about everything you need to call it your home and join our 4,000+ staff who already call it home. Together they help make sure we can respond to anyone needing our help 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

We value care, teamwork, quality, respect and honesty in order to transform the care we deliver to our communities and welcome applicants who share these values to apply to work at EEAST.

The Care Quality Commission has rated the care patients receive as outstanding – staff demonstrate compassion and respect whilst promoting patient dignity and respecting individual needs, patients are involved in their care and treatment, and staff act with the utmost professionalism and support patients and the public in the most trying of circumstances to provide positive outcomes.

If this sounds like you, and it’s time to make the change, then it’s time you applied to work at the ambulance service.

Types of roles
Here are a few of the different patient-facing roles that we have:

*These are non-emergency service roles within our patient transport teams.

** These roles are within our ambulance operation centres (AOCs) based in Norwich, Chelmsford and Bedford.

Volunteering and volunteers

We are very lucky to be supported by our active and valued volunteers and we're always looking for more people to join them.  We have a variety of different roles that you could get involved with, depending on what you're interested in doing.  These include:

  • Community first responders
Our community first responders are volunteers who are trained by us to attend certain types of emergency calls in th e area where they live or work. Their aim is to reach a potential life threatening emergency in the first vital minutes before the ambulance crew arrives.
  • Volunteer car drivers
Our volunteer car drivers are volunteers who live and work in the local community and they give up their time to assist our Patient Transport Service, by transporting patients to and from hospital appointments, treatment centres and other health facilities. They play an essential role providing patient care and for the patients they help, volunteer car drivers are the face of the service.
  • Community Engagement Group
Our Community Engagement Group (CEG) are an independent group of volunteers from around the region who help us identify ways of improving services and support us with a range of activities. They are our critical friends.

NHS Careers
We offer excellent paid holiday entitlement, entry to the NHS pension scheme and other employee benefits. Most importantly, we offer career progression and excellent training opportunities, whilst you get to work with friendly colleagues and have the ability to make a difference to people in the community.
