About

14th August 2024

Have you got your results?  Are you waiting for them?  Do you know what your general options are?

  • A-level results for students in England, Northern Ireland, and Wales will be released on Thursday
  • AS and A-level results are usually available for in-person collection from 08:00, although some students might receive their results by email. It's important to check with your school or college to find out the arrangements in place for you
  • Exams are graded on a scale from A* to E
  • Universities make course offers based on qualifications and grades or the Ucas tariff points system
  • 'Clearing' is a Ucas process that matches students with university and college places, if they don't meet the original offer requirements or don't want to accept their existing offers

Whether you got exactly what you wanted or are now trying to work out what to do next, don't panic!  There are plenty of options available to you, whatever your position. Take some time to understand what your results mean for your next steps with these guides.

Online guides and resources

The National Careers Service has some concise guides available to help you.

  • At 18, there are a lot of options to choose from. What’s right for you will depend on your situation and the career or job you have in mind. Check out the NCS guide to post 18 options here.
