Norfolk Environmental Action Team February 2025
Welcome to February everyone, and with the climate changing several times a day at the moment there’s never been a better time for people to take action for biodiversity and the environment – and their own health and wellbeing. More new sites this month, from a gem of species-rich grassland to an urban allotment, we do them all: TCV is all about working in the community green spaces that matter to local people as well as wildlife. No less than 3 Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs, one of the highest designations for conserving rare species in the country) this month, but just as important to us are the woodlands and food growing areas right in the heart of some of the most deprived areas in the region.
This month also sees the start of a massive new undertaking as we seek to restore the once- famous “Hanging Gardens of Lowestoft” (honestly, people used to go on boat trips to see them) which used to adorn the cliffs above the sand dunes. This is part of a wider initiative improving a whole range of green spaces across the town.
So from Watton to Lowestoft, from East Ruston to Diss, and across 6 different parts of Norwich, we hope to see some of you soon.
