Main description
A great opportunity to learn all aspects of electrical installation, including Agricultural, Domestic, Commercial and Industrial. As an apprentice, you will learn the skills required to become a fully qualified electrician.
- First fix electrics
- Second fix electrics
- Assisting in fault finding
- Checking stock on vans
- Ensuring sites are left clean and tidy
Works covered will include;
- Safe Isolation and Risk Assessment
- Composite Installation
- Safe Isolation of Circuits
- Fault Diagnosis and Rectification
- Installing the following containment types - PVC conduit, metallic conduit, PVC trunking, metallic trunking, cable tray, cable basket, ladder systems, ducting, modular wiring systems and busbar systems or power-track
- Installing and terminate the following cable types - single core (singles), multicore insulated, PVC-PVC flat profile cable, MICC, fore performance, SWA cable, GSWB galvanized steel wire braid and data
- Carrying out the following tests relating to inspection, testing and commissioning along with issuing test certificates - visual inspection, continuity of cpc, continuity of RFC, insulation resistance, polarity, earth fault loop impedance, RCD/RCBO tests, PFC and functional testing
Entry requirements
GCSE or equivalent maths and English (Grade 9-4/A*-C) Essential

Apprenticeship standard
Installation and maintenance electrician Level 3 (A level)
The apprentice will be working towards the Level 3 Installation Electrician Apprenticeship Standard including the City & Guilds Level 3 Electrotechnical qualification
College attendance will be at the Colchester Institute - Colchester Campus one day per week during term time
