John Mayes Engineers are a CNC machine shop predominantly working in the gas and oil sector of engineering. We have 5 axis capability on lathes and mills as well as multi spindle and turret machines. We run small batch and large batch quantities all running through Mazak machine tools.
Main description
John Mayes Engineers are a CNC machine shop predominantly working in the gas and oil sector of engineering. They are currently looking for an apprentice CNC Machinist to join and learn within their team.
Main Duties:
Work under the supervision of a skilled machinist to learn and develop practical skills.
Complete all tasks set by the supervisor.
Work closely with staff to foster professional values and build good relationships.
Observe health and safety guidelines at all times.
Entry requirements
GCSE C grade in English and Maths (4/5) - Essential

Training to be Provided
The learner will be studying the Machining Technician Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard qualification.
Day release to West Suffolk College.
Functional skills will be studied if equivalent qualifications are not held.
Things to consider
This role will involve programming on a computer screen, learning to use and program 3,4 and 5 axis CNC machine tools. Handling steel and using power tools, cleaning of machines and sweeping the floors.
Future Prospects
On satisfactory completion of the apprenticeship a long-term contract will be offered
