About
A Jackson team has successfully completed a major milestone on the A249 and Grovehurst Road interchange improvement scheme near Sittingbourne in Kent.
Over a weekend at the end of August, the team worked tirelessly throughout the day and night to install all bridge beams and formwork over the A249.
The cantilever formwork is to carry the concrete in its temporary state and to prevent objects falling onto the carriageway.
The multi-million pound scheme will see the existing “dumbbell” junction replaced with a two-bridge flyover and is being constructed on behalf of Kent County Council.
The lifting started in the early hours of Saturday morning – a 750-tonne crane was used to lift the 45-metre-long beams in pairs, each pair weighing 75 tonnes.
Jackson subcontractor Nusteel oversaw the lifting operation, which saw eight beams lifted into place.
