About Us

Thetford Conservation Group aims to give a wide range of people the chance to get close to nature and help look after some of the town’s fantastic green open spaces – which include a Site of Special Scientific Interest, a scheduled ancient monument, two woodlands and large stretches of beautiful riverside.

Thetford Conservation Group will run free activities on Thursdays*, with a mixture of practical conservation tasks and opportunities to learn more about local natural history. “You don’t have to be physically fit or strong, or have any previous knowledge or experience in order to take part”, says Thetford Town Council’s new Countryside and Planning Officer Mark Webster, who has been running projects like this since 1993. Anyone can join in and make a positive difference for local wildlife.

*If numbers increase we plan to start again on Wednesday as well!

The group will tackle a wide variety of tasks such as helping conserve rare wildflower species on Barnham Cross Common and planting bulbs and trees. Thetford is lucky to have so many wonderful green spaces freely accessible to the public. Thetford Conservation Group will give local people the chance to meet new people and learn new skills, whilst helping to improve our special wildlife habitats.

Anyone interested in joining in with any of the group’s activities should contact David Pentin via 01842 754 247/ 07553 388 551 or davidpentin@thetfordtowncouncil.gov.uk
