About us
Our underlying belief is that every child is an individual. We are a small school, which allows every pupil to be challenged, to achieve and to grow. Our distinctive approach provides many benefits in academic, pastoral and extracurricular areas.
We offer a flexible curriculum and favourably-sized classes. Both result in individual attention and excellent value-added attainment. Our staff know their pupils very well, recognise their particular strengths and weaknesses and are able to set learning targets for each individual.
The excellent relations between pupils and staff result in a strong family atmosphere. Knowing our pupils well allows us to encourage them to take risks, safe in the knowledge that we will support them. This allows every pupil to be challenged, to achieve and to grow.
Our mission
Thetford Grammar School has offered education continuously for nine centuries. We are justly proud of this. Yet we are very aware that the world into which you will emerge is a fast moving, ever changing one and that it is vital to embrace this challenge from the start, which we do, fully. At the heart of our inclusive family community is the creative growth of every individual in all areas: academic, physical, emotional, cultural and social.
Sixth Form
The Sixth Form at Thetford Grammar School is a natural progression from all that has gone on before. It paves the way for future university and career choices. There is some provision for adding or re-taking GCSEs, but the main emphasis is on achieving good AS and A levels in a familiar, positive and supportive environment.
For those who have been members of the school before, it is a time when they are amongst friends who are all keen to do well. It is a time when they can develop and strengthen relationships with staff in their small Sixth Form classes. Those who are new to the school will find that they are made extremely welcome by staff and students alike. For whatever reason they enter the Sixth Form the opportunities are there for students to work hard, to receive first class teaching in small groups and to be part of an active and civilised community.
Our emphasis is on developing the individual, drawing out everyone’s particular talents and qualities and encouraging a diversity of involvement from the physical elements of the Duke of Edinburgh Award, the creative opportunities of music to the practical skills of preparing presentations for interviews.

Career support
At TGS we consider Careers guidance to be an essential aspect of life in the Sixth Form. This is especially true as our students are considering the many opportunities available to them in the world beyond school.
We aim to provide up to date careers information throughout Years 12 and 13, in a form that they will find easy to use. Individual appointments can be made with the careers coordinator and a dedicated resource area is open throughout the school day, stocking university prospectuses as well as publications detailing relevant information about a variety of careers and different routes of entry at age 18, such as Advanced Apprenticeships and company sponsored professional qualifications.
