About us

Poultec Training was established in 1997 by Edward Bales to offer work-based training and consultancy to the Poultry industry on a national scale. Poultec has subsequently grown and diversified into a wide range of training areas.

We have continued to expand this successful business model into other sectors including Engineering, Retail and Customer Service, Hospitality and Catering, Business Administration, Management, Functional Skills, Information Technology, Butchery, Clinical Services, Contact Centre, Fitness, Food Manufacturing, Hairdressing & Barbering, Manufacturing, Speedway, and Warehouse & Storage.

Poultec is based at South Green Park; a purpose-built complex consisting of a range of training suites, conference rooms, IT suites and a fully licensed restaurant. The original centre was opened in 2003 and has established an excellent reputation with local and regional businesses and public sector organisations that regularly use the facilities.

The second building – the Norfolk Food Centre of Excellence was opened in 2007 which as well as having additional training rooms houses the Butchery Training Suite, Product Development Kitchen and Cookery Training Suite. South Green Park has expanded to include a further building consisting of training rooms, offices and a Hair and Beauty training salon as well as a 7 metre high ropes course designed to build confidence and inspire team spirit. A range of outdoor activities including a mobile climbing wall, archery, Segways and Bocarts further add to the range of leadership and team building packages we can offer.

What we can offer you

We offer a diverse range of training packages of which Apprenticeships are a significant part. Apprenticeships are an excellent way of measuring an individual’s skills attainment and, combined with a structured training programme, can help to develop an individual’s confidence and skills in the workplace. At Poultec, we strive to deliver structured and effective Apprenticeships which utilise a comprehensive on-line portfolio system, regular visits and tailored assessment and learner support material.

To complement the Apprenticeships we offer a wide range of short courses which are aimed at increasing and refreshing learners knowledge in subjects such as Leadership and Management, Health and Safety, Manual Handling, COSHH, First Aid, Environmental Awareness, Poultry Welfare, Hygiene and Biosecurity and Food Safety.

We offer a significant range of options for young people looking for work or people considering a change of career. Whether a Traineeship or other occupationally-specific course, our training combines targeted learning opportunities and work experience to give the best chance of success.

Training and Apprenticeships

Pre-Apprenticeships
Traditionally, on leaving compulsory full time education, you had two options – continue with education or enter employment. Not any longer! We have a range of Pre-Apprenticeship qualifications to help you gain the right skills to go into employment or on to an Apprenticeship.

Are you finding it difficult to take the right step into employment? Need insight and experience in your chosen industry to get a job? Now with a Next Step course, you can gain vocational knowledge in a chosen industry, which could lead to a nationally-recognised qualification or hopefully an Apprenticeship.

A Next Step course provides you with a nationally-recognised qualification, Work Experience, CV Writing and Interview Techniques and Functional Skills Maths & English.

Apprenticeships
Apprentices are paid employees of a business, who gain experience and knowledge from working alongside skilled team members whilst also completing a qualification. The qualification is normally completed in the work-place; however apprentices may also need to attend workshops from time-to-time away from their normal place of work. The qualifications that an apprentice gains are nationally recognised qualifications, specific to their place of work.

Traineeships
A Traineeship is a programme to support young people moving from education onto an Apprenticeship or into employment. The programme is aimed at 16-19 year olds who are not employed and have little work experience, but are focused on gaining employment.

It lasts up to six months and is made up of both classroom based training and work experience. The key focus of a Traineeship is providing you with real life work experience and relevant training to prepare you for work, including training in Maths and English.

You will gain work experience with an employer who will provide a formal reference on completion and will also guarantee you an interview. During classroom based sessions you will learn important work preparation skill such as CV writing, job searching, interview techniques and inter-personal skills.
