What to expect
When we receive your referral form you will be contacted within 2 working days.
We will match you with a coach who will phone you to find a time to meet in a public space near you to catch up such as a café. Don’t worry the coffee or hot chocolate is on us! If you are meeting us in Norwich, other On Track participants have found the Forum Café or our Next Steps Centre to be a nice relaxing place to meet.
At your first meeting, it is all about getting to know you and you getting to know your coach.
Your coach wants to know about what you like, what you dislike, your passions and some of the goals you have. Don’t worry if you aren’t sure what goals you have as that’s part of our job to work with you to find out what you would like to do. Thinking about the future can be scary and daunting, we are here to help ease that worry. It’s ok to have no idea about what career you would like to do. We can help you get a better understanding of what your options are.
Our moto at On Track is all about doing things with you, rather than doing things for you. We are here to be beside you on your journey with On Track.
Your On Track coach will aim to meet you on a fortnightly basis and each meeting is tailored to what you would like to focus on. Some examples of the types of things your coach can work with you on:
- Developing confidence in communication
- CV Writing
- Applying for a job, volunteering, education or employment
- Making sense of paperwork
- Managing conflict
- Positive thinking and developing resilience
Meet one of the coaches
At On Track, we know it can be daunting meeting someone new for the first time. We have all been in that position and we want to ease your nerves as much as possible. Here is some information about Meg, one of the On Track coaches - "Hi! My name is Meg and I’m one of the On Track coaches. I’m passionate about music and love nature. I have experienced a lot within my personal life as well as being a former On Track participant myself. I believe that anyone is capable of anything they put mind to no matter their background or past."
What young people think about On Track
- "I just wanted to say a massive thank you for the times cooking as well as everything in between, I don't think I've been in such a friendly environment as that, so thank you for everything you've done, you have massively helped my future and made the months when I've been at On Track an amazing memory to be grateful for."
- “This programme has been helpful to me with dealing with my emotions and learning new ways to cope. It’s also made me more confident and I have a lot less anxiety about going out, spending time with people and I am able to be myself when with my friends.”
- “I am confident I am going to do well. I have the tools needed thanks to On Track to be able to cope with traveling to college, working with other people and getting in the right headspace to work. They have also helped me learn to speak up about things I need to be able to better support me during school.”
- “I want to say a wholehearted thank you. On Track was there to help me in a time in my life where I was unsure and uncertain about things. Maybe I would have been uncertain about things if it wasn’t for On Track. Your work is valued and is necessary.”
- “Life has gotten better. I have had an opportunity to feel better about myself and feel more accepting of myself. I don’t cry. I deal with it now. I now look at the issue, how do I fix it and how do feel about it. This has made my life easier as I’ve been learning how to communicate.”
- “The most positive thing about On Track is how you help anyone from any background, you look at the person rather than what has happened to the person.”
- “I’ve found everyone at On Track to be very welcoming and respectful. I have fun and engaging chats with staff and I felt at the coffee cake it was like getting an invisible hug when I walked in the room which reduced any anxiety I had.”

On Track is a project to clear barriers to work for young people in Norfolk who have multiple and complex needs. The project helps to support young people aged 16-24 to move closer to getting into education, training, employment or volunteering.
Coaches are a central feature of the On Track project. They provide one-to-one confidential support and assist you with any particular challenges you may face. An open, non-judgemental approach and regular meetings with a young person’s coach ensure that they set achievable career goals and have practical support to break down the barriers to achieving these goals. When a young person comes to On Track, they will be matched with a coach. Participants can also take part in small group activities to support them with developing their confidence, communication and team work skills.
What professionals think about On Track
- “On Track has been an invaluable resource to me and my colleagues in providing us with a trusted, young person centred organisation willing to do all possible to support our NEET young people to move forward with their lives”.
- “As an adviser with many years of experience in guidance work with unemployed young people, many having a range of complex needs and challenges, I have always valued the non-judgemental, accepting nature of your response to the many referrals I have made over the years. So many young people – a massively increasing number – find themselves unable to access education, employment or training opportunities due to the extent of the barriers facing them. Being able to refer these young people for 1:1 support from a trusted adult who can give them the time they need to develop confidence, trust, goals and life skills has opened a window of opportunity which otherwise would have remained closed to them. For so many, On Track has provided them with the support they need, enabling them to overcome their issues and engage in learning, training and life in a way that they would never have done without support. The further development of your offer to include a selection of timetabled activities and support with functional skills has also been of very real benefit to many.”
