About Care Work
Social Care means supporting and enabling people to stay in their own homes for as long as possible, or within the community – keeping them out of hospital. It’s also about enabling people through supported living to become independent and live the way they choose. There are lots of opportunities to work across a range of specialisms and types of organisations when working in social care in Norfolk.

Careers & Jobs
Our aim at Norfolk County Council is to ensure that everyone in Norfolk who needs care is supported in the setting they choose, to support them in living a fulfilling life as independently as possible. We do this by working with individuals and communities. All of our work is done in partnership with the private and voluntary care sector and we are committed to integrating our services fully with the NHS.
There are a number of different settings;
- Home Care – where you will deliver care in clients homes
- Residential – where you will deliver care in a residential setting
- Day Care – where you will deliver care in a day centre
- Supported Living – where care is delivered within the place they reside
How to Get into Social Care
DIRECT ENTRY
You can join the sector with no previous experience, you just need to have empathy and a caring nature. You’ll receive all the training required to provide high levels of support through the induction process – a 12 week programme to achieve the Care Certificate. Find out more.
APPRENTICESHIP
You may think apprenticeships are just for young people, yes you have to be at least 16 but there is no upper age limit. You may have just left school or college or you could be returning to work, changing career or unemployed. Whatever your circumstances, you could undertake an Apprenticeship. Find out more.

Functional Skills Maths
We use maths in almost every aspect of our daily lives and we all need to use it well to reach our goals. We know that many people struggle with maths in everyday situations and that’s where NCLS Functional Skills maths courses can help!
On the Functional Skills courses you will develop your skills, gain confidence in your maths and get qualifications that can boost your CV, improve your opportunities of finding work, understand maths in everyday life from understanding figures in the news, your personal finances and help you to study on vocational courses.
