Holistic project delivery
From local authority partnerships to private sector collaboration, we support the delivery of future proof infrastructure on a national scale. This has included numerous term maintenance street lighting contracts with local authority partners such as North East Lincolnshire Council, the London Borough of Hillingdon and Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council.
One notable recent local authority success has seen us appointed on a landmark street lighting services contract with Suffolk County Council, as we assume responsibility for fault repairs, asset cleaning, electrical testing, visual inspections, lamp changes and associated civil engineering. The contract covers an initial seven year period, with the option of an additional three year extension.
We also continue to push into new or emerging markets wherever possible, with the business securing its first water contract in 2024 after it was named on Northumbrian Water’s AMP8 Framework. McCann will join ten fellow contractors on the £3.8bn AMP8 capital investment programme which aims to improve infrastructure across the Northumbrian Water and Essex & Suffolk Water operating areas.
Supporting the next generation
We recognise the value of investing in the next generation of industry talent as we work to meet skills shortages and give young people a route into a rewarding career path. This includes offering apprenticeships and placements, while employing dedicated STEM ambassadors to share knowledge and educate young people about how rewarding a career in civil engineering can be.
In 2017, McCann became a member of the 5% Club, a scheme that recognises businesses with 5% or more of its workforce working towards an apprenticeship. Our apprentices follow a structured programme - undertaking approximately 50 days of learning, key skills development, work-based and technical training and work-based experience over the duration of their course. Key skills developed include:

- Self-management and awareness
- Team working and leadership
- Thinking and problem solving
We motivate our apprentices to reach their full potential through recognising and developing not just technical, but also business and personal skills. We inspire them, nurturing their confidence and helping them to develop the essential personal skills needed to progress their careers.
Our aim is for at least 90% of those who join our apprenticeship programme to stay with McCann into full employment. Once in full employment, apprentices continue to have access to learning and development opportunities as well as the support of their line manager. They play a key role in mentoring future generations of apprentices through ‘buddying’ - helping to create positive and quality work experiences.
