About us

Our story begins in 1971, when Gressingham’s founders Maurice and Miriam Buchanan moved from Northern Ireland and started their farm in Debach, Suffolk.

In 1989, the first Gressingham Ducks arrived at the family farm in Debach – by train! 200 ducklings were taken on the train from Peterborough and were picked up in Cambridge by Maurice and Miriam. Over the following two years, they perfected the breed and the remarkable Gressingham Duck was born.

Fast-forward a couple of years and sons Geoff and William Buchanan joined the family business, having studied agriculture and worked elsewhere in the sector before settling down in Suffolk. They are still in charge of the family farm today.

One generation on, we are still rearing the delicious Gressingham Duck from our Red Tractor assured farms in Great Britain along with turkeys and geese for Christmas.

We believe our approach in farming our ducks, in accordance with Red Tractor, provides the best possible outcomes for the health and welfare of the flock.

Gressingham Foods are a family run business that has been operating for over 50 years. Gressingham is proud to support all of its employees through their own personal development, including a sound training programme and annual appraisals.

As part of the Governments initiative, we have recently released our Gender Pay Gap Report.

We offer a Company induction programme, and following a 3 month probationary period can support staff in a career development programme including English language skills.

Apprenticeships

Gressingham are offering excellent apprenticeship opportunities to people across the community who want to secure skills that will help them forge a career in farming and food production.
We really invest in our apprentices and offer a comprehensive package tailored to their needs, whether this is through:

• Funding driving lessons and tests*
• Moped hire and lessons*
• Purchasing bicycles*
• Providing laptops to aid their studies*

We offer apprenticeships in: 

• Butchery
• Poultry
• Warehouse
• Process Operator
