About Us
Emmaus Suffolk is a charity which works with vulnerable, socially isolated people and those at risk of homelessness across the county.
Our ambition is to introduce to Suffolk new ways of tackling entrenched homelessness, isolation and unemployment. We do this by enabling and empowering people to help themselves through meaningful activity that will benefit both themselves and others.
We are part of an international movement of Emmaus communities, and one of 29 Emmaus communities spread across the UK, with a further five groups currently working to establish new communities.
What We Do
- Our Shops
Like all Emmaus communities in the UK, we aim to be a self-funding as possible, using our social enterprises to general income for our charity. - Volunteering
By offering volunteering roles within our social enterprises we give people the chance to make a difference for themselves and contribute to the community. - Groups
We run regular groups at our hubs in Ipswich and Felixstowe. These groups take a number of formats, from our popular Sewing Bee group, to arts and crafts, to simply popping in for a cuppa and a chat. - Community House
Our Community House gives people who would otherwise be homeless or insecurely housed a safe place to call home.
Careers
Emmaus Suffolk is an organisation based around giving people the chance to change and this ethos also applies to our hiring policy. We employ a range of people with both professional and personal lived experience of homelessness. Many of our retail staff team started at Emmaus Suffolk as a volunteer, and when paid roles are available, we consciously seek to hire from within the charity.
