Job Description
The Sales Manager will manage a team of sales advisors to help them achieve agreed targets. They will be responsible for recruiting, training and motivating staff, developing sales strategies and campaigns, collating figures and reporting back to senior managers, keeping up to date with competitors and dealing with customer service issues.
Entry Requirements
You could get into this role through a graduate training programme, an apprenticeship or by applying directly.
University
You could do a degree before applying to a graduate management training programme. Relevant subjects for your degree would include:
- sales and marketing management
- business management
- retail marketing
You will usually need:
- 2 to 3 A level or equivalent for your degree course
Apprenticeship
You could take a sales executive advanced or higher apprenticeship which will give you some of the skills and experience required before applying for a management role.
You will usually need
- 3 or 4 GCSEs at grades 9 to 4 (A* to C) or equivalent including English and maths for an advanced apprenticeship (level 3)
- 4 or 5 GCSEs at grades 9 to 4 (A* to C) or equivalent including English and maths and possibly A levels for a higher apprenticeship
Direct Application
If you have proven experience in sales with a good record of achieving targets you could apply directly. Most employers will be more interested in your track record and marketing experience than qualifications.
Career path and progression
With experience you could take on a larger sales area or you could get promotion to area or national sales manager.

Salary Range
£22,000 to £70,000
