Heating engineers are responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing faults in heating systems. They work on various systems including gas, oil, and renewable energy. With the demand for renewable energy sources on the up, many engineers are adapting their services and training in heat pump installations which is a low-carbon alternative to oil and gas.
You could get started in this role through a Building Services Engineering Installer apprenticeship or take a college course in plumbing and heating or building services engineering, which will provide you with some of the skills needed to become a trainee engineer. Once trained as a heating and ventilation engineer or gas service technician you can take an additional 3-5 day course to train as a heat pump engineer.
