As Head Chef you will oversee the day-to-day running of the kitchen and manage, lead, train, motivate and develop your team. Responsibilities will include menu planning, managing stock, overseeing meal preparation as well as health and safety including food hygiene procedures and recruiting staff.
Many chefs are shifting towards sustainable practices and will collaborate with local suppliers to source sustainable and ethical produce and find ways to utilise food waste. They will also aim to reduce plastic waste and excessive water use.
To get into the industry you could take a university or college course in hospitality and catering or culinary skills or you could get started by taking a chef apprenticeship.
Salary range £22k (starter) to £40k (experienced)
