Battery Energy Storage Engineers typically support management for companies working to provide battery energy storage systems (BESS). An increasingly important part of our growing renewable energy infrastructure, these systems can (for example) store energy produced by wind turbines and solar panels, allowing the energy to be used when wind or solar energy generation for the region is low. Engineers may also be involved in the design and deployment of removable or installable lithium-ion batteries for use in electric and hybrid vehicles or other devices. They may be involved in design reviews, quality control and plans for technical product support as well as overseeing production.
To become a Battery Energy Storage Engineer, you will almost certainly need a degree in a related technology course like a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) or a Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng. or BE). A Master’s degree and other specific technical training courses may also be appropriate.
Salary range £40,000-£60,000
