Main description

JCN is a lovely nursery with easy access to transport and shops. Our children and staff enjoy a stable environment throughout the day, and develop quality relationships with one another. We pride ourselves on our excellent childcare nurturing happy children, making a difference in every child.

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work
An average day/week is very rewarding. The apprentice will be shadowing the mentor learning the ropes. He/she will engage with children in their activities, eventually being able to plan activities with guidance from the mentor.  He/she will provide daily caring health and hygiene routines.  He/she is a role model supporting, encouraging and educating the children in their care to grow and learn in accordance with the Early Years Foundation Stage Statutory Framework. He/she is a partner with parents/carers, colleagues and management, and will have a lot of interaction with them in the daily role.

Child Care

To implement policies and procedures concerning childcare, ensuring that individual needs of children are met within a stimulating environment.

You will be a key person for a group of children and maintain their development records with the guidance of the Room Leader. The Room Leader will induct and guide you through the tapestry process, the planning, tracking, and writing of reports and accident forms. You are expected to assist in the supervision of all other children in your relevant room/group, ensuring that children are encouraged to participate in a range of different activities.

To liaise and communicate with parents, reporting on the child’s well-being and relaying messages. When new children join the setting, you are also expected to take part in welcome meetings. Currently, most welcome meetings are carried out face-to-face at the nursery or via Zoom.

Ensure that activities are fun and stimulating working with the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum Guidance, and the bespoke JCN curriculum.

To safeguard children, make sure that you and anybody involved in the care and education of the young children here in the setting are treating children with respect and do not cause any possible harm to any children through negligence or inappropriate behaviour. Any inappropriate behaviour or practice of staff or parents needs to be reported to the relevant designated personnel.

In respect of the safeguarding policy, staff, parents and visitors are not allowed to use their mobile phones or cameras where children are present. Only nursery cameras are to be used to take images of children for assessment purposes. Relevant permission forms for taking children’s images for assessment purposes or events are obtained from parents before their child joins the nursery but they can be withdrawn by the parents at any time, it is therefore important to check if consent was given and if it is still in place.
