In this role you will have the opportunity to learn and work across South Norfolk and Broadland Councils, where the work you do will impact the lives of thousands of people. The Councils are looking for an apprentice who has an investigative mindset, with an interest in cyber security.

You will have the opportunity to gain an insight and understanding of cyber security operations within a local authority setting and obtain experience which provides a solid grounding for a future career in cyber security, while completing a Cyber Security Technician Level 3 Apprenticeship.

The right candidate should be a highly motivated individual, who can work autonomously as well as working as part of team. You will be expected to use all opportunities to help rapidly improve your skillset.

You will be given full support and special focus from more senior staff – which will allow you to progress, but emphasis is also placed on self-study and a desire to learn. Finally, you must be passionate about cyber security and technology and able to learn and understand new security solutions rapidly.

What you’ll be doing…

  • Participating in the day-to-day operations of the IT Cyber Information Security function, to gain knowledge and experience of the processes and deliverables, providing clearly defined learning outcomes in relation to threat management and incident response.
  • Supporting the Cyber Information Security Officer with entry level tasks such as log monitoring and reviewing security updates.
  • Assisting the Cyber Information Security Officer with analysing and investigating security incidents and events Participate in team exercises and simulations in relation to Cyber Security.
  • Participating in implementing continuous improvements to the security posture of the IT estate.
  • Assisting with monitoring and responding to alerts from security systems.
  • Ensuring that procedure, processes and standards are adhered to and that users are encouraged to adopt best practices with regards to our IT systems.

You must have…

  • The ability to demonstrate good numeracy and literacy skills either evidenced by good general level of education including GCSE Maths and English, or through equivalent experience.
  • The ability to work within a team and also use own initiative.
  • A flexible approach to work.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills to effectively deal with a wide range of customers and members of staff.
  • An avid interest in Cyber Security.
  • A passion for learning and development, demonstrates interest and enthusiasm for the areas in which the apprenticeship is based.
  • The ability to plan, organise and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to work to tight timescales and demonstrate attention to detail.
  • An understanding of the need to deal with customers sensitively and to keep information confidential.
  • The ability to take on individual project work and demonstrate initiative.
  • Up to 15% of this role’s time will be spent on external communication.
  • You must have the right to work in the UK and have been a UK resident for at least the last 3 years.
