Apprentice Mechatronics Maintenance Technician/ Apprentice Engineering Technician in Mechatronics - EQUINOR UK LIMITED

Sheringham Shoal Offshore Windfarm and Dudgeon Offshore Windfarm are both looking to recruit an apprenticeship placement. By working in the Renewables (REN) Business area in Equinor, you will have an opportunity to observe, learn, and understand the end-to-end process of how an offshore windfarm operates.

Working week
Years 1 & 2: Monday- Friday - 5 day working week 08:00-16:00. Years 3 & 4: Rotation work (2 week on and 2 weeks off). 12 hour shifts (times to be confirmed). This includes working and living offshore on a Service Operations Vessel (SOV). Total hours per week: 37.5

What you will do in your working day

Main responsibilities will include:

Onshore:

  • Observing, learning, and understanding of the end-to-end process of windfarm operations.
  • Spending time with various onshore functions on rotation, including Engineering, Procurement, Warehouse and Planning and Marine, as required.
  • Observing, learning, and understanding of High Voltage transmission systems onshore and offshore, from Wind Turbine Generators to National Grid connection.
  • Working in accordance with site Safe Systems of Work (permit system) and governing requirements.

Offshore:

  • To perform maintenance activities on a wide range of equipment used across the entire wind farm, specifically working on Wind Turbine Generators (WTGs) and Offshore Converter Substations.
  • To become proficient in the application and use of a wide range of hand and machine tools along with test equipment.
  • To become proficient in fault diagnosis using technical drawings and documentation and work towards becoming a multiskilled electro/ mechanical troubleshooter.
  • Working in accordance with site Safe Systems of Work (permit system) and governing requirements.
  • Able to work towards competence authorisations as part of the development program.

The training you will be getting

For the full apprenticeship, candidates will complete:

  • Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence) (601/7179/0)
  • Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competence)- Mechatronics Maintenance Technician (603/3845/3)
  • Level 3 Diploma or Extended Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge) (603/1353/5)

For the End Point Assessment (EPA) apprentices will undertake a viva interview, a portfolio of evidence and a professional competency assessment (usually a workplace project).

Apprentices are expected to attend college one day per week (term-time only) at the Ipswich Road campus, located near Norwich city centre.

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

A position may be available for the right candidate following successful completion of the apprenticeship. The business is looking for somebody who wants to develop and gain a position following their apprenticeship.

Qualifications
GCSE or equivalent English and Maths (Grade 4/ C (L2 Functional Skills)) Essential

Things to consider
Candidates must have GCSE grade 4/ C in English and Maths, or the Level 2 Functional Skills equivalent, before they join the apprenticeship. Applicants who are currently undertaking or sitting GCSEs should include their predicted grades on their application.

If successful for this position, you will be offered a conditional place on the apprenticeship, subject to you meeting the entry requirements listed above. Candidates will need to be able to do the following:

- able to attend the office location at Great Wash (Great Yarmouth), complete all the necessary medical and training requirements required to work safely offshore, be able to work offshore living on our service operations vessel the Esvagt Njord, on a 2-week on/ 2-week off rotation, have a good head for working at heights and have a valid passport or be able to apply for one due to opportunities for travel within the role.

• Mandatory work- based units Internal college Gateway process to check an apprentice’s suitability to progress on to Years 3 and 4 Content covered in Years 3 and 4:

• All mandatory college units
• Choice of 4 optional units with agreement from the employer and apprentice, depending on the role, business needs and any barred combinations from the module list
