Overview
The beauty sector encompasses treatments and services including: waxing and hair removal, manicures and pedicures, make up artistry and permanent cosmetics, tanning, body, skin and facial treatments, spa therapies, massage and holistic therapies, non-surgical cosmetic treatments and much more.
Beauty salons are the 8th most popular independent start-ups in the UK with personal grooming businesses (barbering and beauty) being the fastest growing independent retailers.
It is a popular industry to work in due to its flexible hours, part time availability and independent working opportunities. 57% of people working in beauty are self-employed.
It is an industry with large growth potential, in part, thanks to the recent boom of males seeking treatments and grooming services in salons. Men now make up one in five of all hair and beauty customers and 63 per cent of salons saw an increase in men coming through their doors in 2016.
