We are a small, friendly, office-based team, and we have a great deal of experience in advising people who have chosen to make their own care and support arrangements (often with a Direct Payment from Suffolk County Council).
Main description
A kind, committed, and caring Support Worker is required in Kesgrave to help support a 9-year-old autistic child in his own home, supported by his parents. This position is a fantastically rewarding opportunity for those who love working with children and supporting the wellbeing and extra support required of children with autism.
As a Support Worker employed within the home, you will be joining a loving, warm and friendly household committed to the development of the cared for. The successful candidate will become a valued and important member of the family, playing a vital role within family life.
The successful candidate will be utilised within the home primarily to support the child at playtime, playing with toys, carrying out activities, and reading his favourite books. At times the Support Worker will also be required to help with mealtime and snack-eating.
Due to the working patterns of the parents, the Support Worker will be supported by parents but must be responsible for the child alone when required. Essential criteria: In order to be considered as a candidate, individuals must possess the following qualities and characteristics.
Personal skills and qualities
- Candidates should be of a warm, respectful, and understanding character.
- Candidates should be responsible and capable of acting without supervision when necessary, remaining pro-active and solution focused
- Candidates should possess excellent communication skills
- Candidates should be committed to the wellbeing of the cared for Candidates should be competent and capable of effectively carrying out tasks where required
Desirable criteria
Experience in a similar position with vulnerable children will support an application
Qualifications required
- NVQ in Health & Social Care, or a Diploma Children’s Workforce, we will also support an application of a candidate, but is not essential
- Driving license
Additional information
- The hourly pay for this position is £13.50 per hour.
- The position is for 10 hours per week, although it is expected additional hours will be available per week.
- Employees will receive 5.6 weeks pro-rata of paid annual leave per year.
- Employees will receive all statutory entitlements where relevant, including a workplace pension.
The post is subject to the following:
- A satisfactory enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check, the cost of which will be covered by the employer.
- Satisfactory references from two referees, one of which must be your current or last employer.
- Completion of a satisfactory probationary period of 1 month.
