Sizewell C (SZC) Summer Work Placement– July / August 2025

  • Applicants must be 18 or over at the start date of the placement

Main description

We’re looking for enthusiastic individuals that are wanting to get their foot in the door in the world of work and gain experience in an exciting nuclear project that is really making a difference. In return we will support you in building your skills, experience and confidence in the first steps of your career. 

Location: London (EC2) or Suffolk (Leiston) plus some remote working
Employment type: 8-week summer placement, full time Fixed Term Contract Duration:

This role will be for 8 weeks, over July and August – we’ll confirm your start date closer to the time, but don’t worry we’ll give you plenty of notice.  

The 8-week period will comprise of:

Week 1 will be your induction week which will include getting to know the project, getting set up with IT and meeting with your line managers.

Weeks 2 – 8  will be spent working directly within your designated placement team
Throughout the placement, you will also have access to our online e-learning platform that will help you develop your professional skills such as communication, team building, time management, leadership and networking.

The Work Placement:

We have positions available in teams across the project:

Finance & Economic Regulation - the team that interacts with shareholders and sets the strategy for how the project is delivered, driving the success of the project.

Engineering and Technical Design – the team that works on design, production and maintenance for building Sizewell C, taking learnings from building Hinkley Point C.

Environment and Sustainability Assurance – the team that ensures we are doing right by the environment and achieving our sustainability commitments.

Quality Assurance- the team that makes sure we mitigate risk and uphold the quality standards in relation to the construction of Sizewell C.

Independent Nuclear Assurance - the team that independently assess and monitor management system practices and processes in line with best UK and international practice, with a focus on improving the organisation and processes and maintaining a nuclear safety overview of the project.

Digital and Social Media Communications - this team creates digital strategies and visual content for use on the Sizewell C social media channels and website to connect with external online audiences.

Regional External Affairs and Development (READ) is the team responsible for local stakeholder engagement, community relations and the development of local projects with external partners in the region. The team is based in the heart of Leiston high street.

Human Resources is the team that supports the entire employee lifecycle. The scope of HR Operations is multi-faceted. It plays a crucial role in developing a company’s people strategy to reach its business goals

This is an excellent and exciting opportunity to gain experience in a key team at the heart of a large, important and high-profile infrastructure project, whilst being at the forefront of the UK’s climate change agenda in helping Britain achieve Net Zero. The scale of this project makes it a particularly dynamic and interesting place to work and it will provide you a unique opportunity to develop skills and experience that will be highly valued in the energy and other sectors.

What you can expect:

There will be opportunities to be involved in a broad range of tasks, encompassing:

Local and national politics
Technical design
Project management activities
Programme review
Maintenance of a risk register
Nuclear and environmental regulations and compliance 
Written and quantitative analysis
Key performance indicators and reporting
 
Exact experience gained varies between teams and assignments. In addition, all placement students will be involved in a group project, working as one team, collaborating and developing initiatives to overcome a challenge faced by the project.  

What you'll need to apply:   

We are open to all disciplines and academic backgrounds as part of building a diverse team with different experiences. Please note, if you put an application in to this opportunity you will be asked to enter your degree type, however, if you don't hold a degree, please enter N/A.
Placement preferences will be captured upon application, and placements will be aligned to the suitable team and selected at Sizewell C’s discretion.
Flexible, enthusiastic, and diligent approach with a willingness to develop knowledge. 
Organisational and time management skills.
Able to use Microsoft 365 applications to an intermediate level.

You will need to meet the requirements for Security Vetting, which will, ordinarily, require you to have been a resident of the UK for at least 3 of the last 5 years.

We’re unable to consider applications from candidates who will not be aged 18 or over at the time of the placement

What salary and benefits are we offering you?

£23,250 - £25,500 pro rata depending on location
4 days holiday during work placement
