Adcock Refrigeration and Air Conditioning design, install, service and care for systems in commercial, industrial and individual residential premises right across the UK and are a widely respected organisation within the cooling and heating industry.

We are recruiting for a Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality Apprentice to join our team and work alongside the SHEQ Manager

You will be based in Sawston – CB22 3JH and have accompanied travel to site with SHEQ manager during apprenticeship. You would need to be able to travel to the office, you may need to use your own vehicle during working hours- this is to be discussed at interview stage.

Main description

Purpose of Role

This is an apprenticeship, if you have completed a degree in this field or something similar, you are overqualified and therefore not eligible for this position.

The role will be both office and site based providing advice to others on how to work without harming themselves or others. Apprentices will work with management and delivery teams to advise on the statutory health, safety and environmental requirements as they affect the company’s operations. They will assist the management team in ensuring that the legal and company SHE requirements are implemented.

Main Responsibilities

1.    Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality Responsibilities

o   Develop, review, and execute safe systems of work.

o   Create and deliver training packages (e.g., toolbox talks & inductions)

o   Investigate and report incidents in the workplace.

o   Analyse data and present findings to the management team

o   Undertake site visits to construction sites to check on site safety standards.

o   Review and approve risk assessments and method statements.

o   Enforce health and safety requirements.

o   Identify hazards and implement solutions.

o   Planning emergency procedures.

o   Adhering to environmental and safety laws.

o   Implement health and safety standards such as ISO 45001 etc.

o   Typical Working Week 40 hours p/w with start time typically between 07:00 & 08:00 inclusive of paid 8 hours at college.

2.    Mentoring and training

o   Provide guidance on HSE training requirements as needed.

o   Advise branches on the technical training requirements for engineers in conjunction with the lead HR function – in support of  SHEQ requirements.

o   Support the branches and the training centre in the management of trainees in SHEQ matters.

o   Assist with assessments and investigations.

3. Key interfaces with all site personnel, including front line and management staff and contractors, Internal/external auditors and regulatory bodies.  

4.    To comply with all Health, Safety and Environmental policies and procedures and ensure communication of compliance throughout the business.

5.    To comply with all other company policies and procedures.

6.    Perform any other reasonable duties commensurate with these responsibilities, the band of the post and skill and qualifications of the post-holder.

Entry requirements

Essential

  • You must be 18+ due to site H&S rules.
  • GCSE at Grade 4 or above (or equivalent) in English and Maths. 
  • Driving Licence

Desirable

  • NEBOSH - if not training will be provided

Personal Skills and qualities

Desirable

  • Experience in a similar administration role in a busy working environment with regular use of databases to enter and validate data. This is a nice to have element. 
  • Committed to further study

Essential

  • Excellent IT, verbal and written communication skills 
  • Initiative to identify and find solutions to administration issues. 
  • Ability to establish rapport and positive working relationships with a wide variety of internal and external customers. The ability to interact with people at all levels within/external to the Company. 
  • Computer literate to intermediate / advanced level 
  • Computer literate to intermediate / advanced level
  • Excellent organisation and prioritisation skills.
  • Excellent understanding of and ability to deliver customer service
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate technical jargon when needed.
  • Flexible attitude and comfortable with change. 
  • Teamwork, whilst embracing and driving change.
  • High commercial awareness with the ability to understand the commercial impact of actions.

Training to be provided

We will enrol you to the Level 3 Safety, Health & Environment Technician course and fund your qualifications through an accredited training provider. The apprenticeship duration is 24 months.

Eligibility 

To start this apprenticeship, you’ll need to be:

Living in England for the last 3 years and have right to work status, · Not enrolled on any other courses,
