The Old House School cares for children between the ages of birth and 5 years old. We are open Monday to Friday (Variable hours) all year round except for closure on public bank holidays. What you’ll do at work
Are you ready to kickstart your career in childcare? Old Schoolhouse Kindergarten is thrilled to offer an exciting opportunity for an
Apprentice to join our team. This is your chance to gain hands-on experience and training in a supportive, fun environment, and earn as you learn! 

What You’ll Do: 
As an Early Years Apprentice, you'll get real-world experience working in a day nursery. You’ll be paired with a buddy to guide you, and work towards becoming a key person in the nursery.

Your apprenticeship will include training days and practical days at the nursery.

Your typical day will include: 

  • Assisting team members to provide top-notch care and education for children. 
  • Building authentic and meaningful relationships with children and their parents/carers.
  • Liaise closely with parents/carers and encourage their involvement in nursery life and their child's learning.

Training to be provided

An apprenticeship includes regular training with a college or other training organisation. At least 20% of your working hours will be spent training or studying.

Your training plan
Your role and responsibilities will be defined by your employer, Old Schoolhouse Kindergarten, which will provide on-the-job training and incorporate 20% off-the-job learning into your workday.  

You’ll work towards the Level 2 Early Years Practitioner apprenticeship. Training is delivered by Realise, Old Schoolhouse Kindergarten’s dedicated provider.

Desirable qualifications
Basic Maths (grade n/a) and Standard English (grade n/a)
Let the company know about other relevant qualifications and industry experience you have. They can adjust the apprenticeship to reflect what you already know.

Other requirements

We conduct safeguarding checks following 'Keeping Children Safe in Education' guidelines. All nursery staff must have a current Enhanced DBS Disclosure. If you lack a valid DBS Update Service subscription, you'll need to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process.

Future prospects

Starting as an Early Years Apprentice, you can advance through various rewarding roles in childcare.  

With experience and qualifications, you might progress to:  
Room Leader: Oversee a specific room in the nursery, leading activities and ensuring children's well-being and development. You'll also mentor team members.  

Deputy Manager: 
Assist the Nursery Manager with daily operations, including staff management, administrative tasks, and maintaining high care standards.  

Nursery Manager: Manage the nursery’s overall operation, including strategic planning, regulatory compliance, financial management, and leading the team to provide an excellent environment for children's growth.
