About
Two Jackson projects in Nottinghamshire have been recognised with International Green Apple Environment Awards for their outstanding environmental achievements.
At Lowdham, where a Jackson team is constructing a Flood Storage Reservoir on behalf of the Environment Agency, the team picked up a gold award in the Pollution & Emission reduction category for its use of an innovative silt capture channel.
This was a joint submission alongside water quality specialists Frog Environmental who produce the channel - a natural water treatment system that cleans run-off surface water leaving the construction site and reduces the risk of polluting nearby watercourses and causing harm to aquatic life.
At nearby Colwick, where Jackson last year completed construction of the UK’s largest fish pass, also on behalf of the EA, the team were awarded a silver award in the Habitat and Diversity category. The fish pass on the River Trent opens up an additional 60kms of spawning grounds and provides a major step in restoring the catchment to its former glory as a habitat for migratory fish.
The International Green Apple Awards are run by The Green Organisation, an independent, non-profit group founded in 1994 to recognise, reward, and promote environmental excellence worldwide.
