Main description

We have an exciting opportunity available for an individual who is looking to join our Thorpe Forest team as our newest Kitchen Assistant. Joining us on a part time basis, this role will provide crucial support to our busy Retreat team, covering 16 hours per week to include 12 hours on a Sunday (8.30am-20.30pm) and the remaining 4 hours on either a Saturday or Wednesday evening during our busy Quiz Night. In return we will offer you an hourly pay rate of £11.44 per hour (increasing to £12 per hour if monthly targets are met), a place to develop your skills and the chance to work in some of the UK’s most stunning forest environments.

The role of Kitchen Assistant is perfect for university, college students or those looking for the flexibility of a part time role to fit around them. It would also suit those looking for entry into the hospitality sector or to gain experience in a kitchen setting.

Our Kitchen Assistant:

Your responsibilities will be varied as we ensure you gain experience working within a busy kitchen. Full training will be given and this is an excellent way to fill out your CV with varied kitchen and catering experience, with training certificates to back it up.

Responsibilities include some or all of the following:

  • Cleaning and sterilising countertops, kitchen walls, stoves, ovens, grills and sinks
  • Pot wash and table cleaning in the café
  • Cleaning the entire kitchen once it is closed to ensure it is ready for the next day
  • Maintaining the food storage areas like freezers and refrigerators
  • Receiving deliveries and organising them in the kitchen
  • Washing dirty dishes like cutlery, pots, cutting boards and pans or loading dishes into the dishwasher
  • Removing kitchen waste from waste containers and disposing of them properly
  • Cleaning and maintaining cooking equipment like cookers, pots and food mixers
  • Supporting the Chef in basic food preparation like cutting ingredients, peeling and washing food items
  • Providing assistance to Cooks and other kitchen staff, as needed
  • Successful applicants will receive an initial telephone interview where full details will be provided and any questions answered.

Note:

16 – 17 year old's paid at £6.40 p/hour (increasing to £6.72 p/hour if targets met)
17 – 18 year old's paid at £8.60 p\hour (increasing to £9.03 p/hour if targets met)
