Firstgrade Recycling Systems design, manufacture and install machinery for the waste processing industry. We are a small fast growing company, based just outside Bury St Edmunds, working from two industrial units, primarily welding and fabricating and assembling the equipment before shipping to site for installation.
Main description
Firstgrade Recycling Systems Limited are looking for a welder/fabricator apprentice, to learn how to build our equipment as part of an apprenticeship. The role is based in the production department.
Main Duties:
- Cutting and drilling
- Welding
- Spray painting
- Assembling final assemblies prior to shipment
- Loading and loading vehicles (Forklift training will be given)
- Installation on site if required
Entry requirements
Maths and English GCSE Grade 3 or higher preferred.

The learner will be studying the Engineering Operative Level 2 Apprenticeship Standard qualification.
Day release to West Suffolk College
Things to consider
Hours 38 hours per week, overtime normally available. Travel may be required periodically within the UK to assist with installations and service. Benefits 20 days paid holiday, increasing by one day per year after 5 years to a maximum of 25 days, workplace pension scheme.
Future Prospects
The position opens up a number of avenues the primary role is as a welder fabricator manufacturing equipment at our Cockfield site, but with possibility in specialising in: -
Stock - making sure all parts are pre drilled and cut prior to welding and assembly -
Spray painting and finishing -
Assembly of the components -
Installation and service of our equipment.
