Norfolk Environmental Action Team March 2025
FREE bus travel on Mondays this month! As an experiment we are offering to refund the bus tickets of all volunteers coming on Mondays this month. They simply need to hand their ticket from any public bus service to the TCV task leader who will photograph it (so you can get a return if you like) and refund you in cash. This can be used to go to and from either the work sites themselves, or the Sainsbury’s central Norwich meeting point (right near the bus station). We hope that this will make our task days more accessible to more people – at the end of this month we will check to see if this has worked in getting more people to attend (and whether it is affordable) so use it or lose it!
And now some more usual blurb! Two more new sites this month, and they couldn’t be more different! Our first task of the month is at the old Roman Town of Caistor St Edmund near Norwich (please don’t go to Caister-on-Sea that day, unless you want to go on the beach) where you can wander among the massive ancient walls and down to the river in peace. Towards the end of the month we start a great new project to transform a neglected corner of an urban park in Lowestoft into a brand new community garden with facilities for food growing and contact with nature. The nearby hall provides teas, bacon (or vegan) rolls and toilet facilities.
We are also continuing with great swathes of habitat improvement at East Ruston, at Queen’s Hills in Costessey, and at a variety of other sites, including Rouen Road in central Norwich: I think that the wildflower area we created there has had more public approval (delight even!) than any other site we have ever worked at.
So let’s get the last trees of the season planted and ‘spring’ into action (is this my worst pun ever?) to connect, protect and restore habitats across Norfolk. Better nature for all!
Best wishes,
Mark.
