PGM Carpentry manages the carpentry requirements across over 40 new build sites including the whole of Essex, Suffolk and London. We strive on making sure our work is up to standards and take pride in making sure our workforce is taken care of!
Main description
We are currently looking for five candidates who are interested in becoming apprentices and joining the carpentry sector of the building world. This will be a 3-year course where you'll work under the guidance and direction of an experienced carpenter or craftsperson. You’ll carry out all aspects of carpentry from new-built homes to refurbishments.
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
Learn the process of understanding drawings and work in accordance with specifications
Take measurements and calculate the size and amount of material needed
Follow health & safety policy and procedures, including the wearing of personal protective equipment (PPE) where needed
Use various tools, equipment and materials safely
Installation of the following:
- Joists
- Roofing
- First fixing
- Window installation
- Cladding
- Decking
- Second fixing
- Kitchen installation
- Finals

Training to be provided
An apprenticeship includes regular training with a college or other training organisation. At least 20% of your working hours will be spent training or studying.

Your training course
Carpentry and joinery (level 2) Equal to GCSE
Your training plan
During this course you will be attending college once a week with the rest of the week spent on site.
The college course will be 2 years and once it's completed you will gain your Level 2 in Carpentry and Joinery and spend the final year as an improver honing your skills!
Functional skills level 2 in English and maths (if required).
Entry Requirements
Essential qualifications
CSCS Card (This is required for site work)
Desirable qualifications
GCSE or equivalent in: Maths and English (grade Minimum Level 3)
Let the company know about other relevant qualifications and industry experience you have. They can adjust the apprenticeship to reflect what you already know.

Future prospects
Once the apprenticeship has been completed, you will be a fully qualified carpenter and have the option to stay on with us as a subcontractor
