Employer Description

Arminhall specialise in the design, fabrication and installation of architectural metalwork and structural steel, mainly feature staircases and balustrade in high-end fit-out projects in London. Arminhall engage sub-contractors in associated trades such as glass, timber, specialist cladding and pre-cast concrete flooring.

The office is in Saffron Walden, it is the hub where the business is operated from. There is a small fabrication workshop there but the unit in Haverhill provides a newly appointed, spacious fabrication workshop for the majority of our products to be made.

Main description

Arminhall specialise in the design, fabrication and installation of architectural metalwork and structural steel, mainly featuring staircases and balustrade in high-end fit-out projects. They are currently looking for an apprentice Welder/Fabricator to join and learn within their team.

Main Duties:

The day will always include a toolbox talk, a look at the drawings and taught bench work, the preparation of steel for welding Learning all aspects of steel production and many types of welding, their uses and applications in the fabrication process.
As the steel arrives at our workshop, to be sawn, drilled, weld prepped, welded and readied for finishing (galvanising, primed or powder coating) and the use of power tools, their care and safe use.

The Apprentice will hold a position that requires them to be a fully committed member of our SME, providing an essential and important role within our busy, thriving organisation.

We will aid, support, encourage and guide this Apprentice to be an excellent welder and then on to fabricator, growing with the company as skills and confidence allow.

Entry requirements

GCSE grades 3-9 Maths and English - Essential.

Training to be Provided

The learner will be studying the Welder Level 2 Apprenticeship Standard qualification.
Day release to West Suffolk College

Things to consider

Internal work will be welding, welding prep, plasma cutting area, keeping the workshop tidy, toolbox talks, outside work will be around the movement of steel into the workshop, painting, prep of steel leaving for site.

Future Prospects

Arminhall would like an Apprentice to come and learn how to be the very best Welder and in turn Fabricator and gain the experience to eventually be a Coded Welder. To learn to work on interesting and unique products alongside our volume pieces, stringers/balustrade/structural pieces, and be offered a full-time permanent position here, being routinely put forward for new qualifications and certificates.
