Main description
When you join the Behaviour Change Team as an Apprentice Road Safety Officer, we’ll support your development from the start. We will help you to play to your strengths, diversify your skills and build an influential and impactful career.
With a variety of career paths and learning opportunities to explore, if you are motivated and passionate there’s no limit to how far your ambition could take you. Reimagine the possibilities.
Your role and responsibilities
- One day you could be out showing new parents how to fit a car seat, the next you could be in a school hall teaching 7 year olds the basics of how to safely cross the road.
- The more enthusiasm and commitment you bring to the role, the more varied and interesting it will become as you develop your skills you’ll be able to offer support to the wider team enabling more young people to walk or cycle for short journeys, improving both their health and contributing to our goals to reduce CO2 emissions
- You will need to be organised and able to keep records of your work, both for your apprenticeship and also because, as a team we share the work and one of your colleagues may need to pick something along the way
- Your team will support and encourage you at every step in your journey, helping you to successfully qualify at the end of the course.
Your apprenticeship
Level 3 Community Safety Advisor
12 months duration
You will be studying for a Community Safety Advisor Level 3 Apprenticeship which will involve 1 day a week study as well as ‘on the job’ experience. As well as working in road safety you will cover areas such as fire risk, crime prevention and safeguarding, opening the door to a whole range of careers within the emergency services and NHS.
We welcome apprenticeship applications from all ages and backgrounds. There's no upper age limit - it's never too late to start developing new skills. We want to provide opportunities for anyone interested in launching or advancing their career.
The apprenticeship you are applying for must build on your qualifications. If you have experience in this field, the apprenticeship you're applying for must be at a higher level.
Read the Job and Person Profile (docx) and the Apprenticeship Recruitment Brochure (pagetiger.com). They hold a range of information. During the apprenticeship, you will be working towards the role described in those materials. You will have the opportunity to receive hands-on training and pursue certification. Completing your apprenticeship does not guarantee a full-time position. However, we are dedicated to helping you find a job. You will have priority access when you apply for vacancies. This applies during the final 3 months of your contract.
You will need
We are looking for someone who’s really outgoing and can easily convey their enthusiasm for a subject.
We will give you the skills to stand up and present in front of a group of 60 primary school children, but your lively personality will help to keep them engaged
If you’ve read the JPP and aren’t sure if you have enough experience or qualifications, but still love the idea of this role then get in touch with us and chat through it in more detail.
If you can make a difference then we want to hear from you
We want to hear from people from all walks of life – some of the communities that we work with can be hard to reach and if you’re from a minority community then your knowledge and / or cultural understanding could be just what we’re looking for.
You can view a full list of requirements in the Job and Person Profile (docx). If you believe you can succeed in this role, apply. Even if you don't meet all requirements, still apply. We would appreciate the opportunity to consider your application.
The team
- The Behaviour Change Team works within Transport Strategy, but we also work closely with colleagues in Public Health and with the Police. Together we work to enable more people to travel safely, by active travel for shorter journeys and by the safest and most sustainable modes for longer ones
- As a team we all believe strongly in what we do and we take every opportunity to share the benefits of safe, more active travel with people
- We are a diverse team with heritage from countries including India, The Philippines, Hong Kong and Poland. We respect and support each other and our differing strengths and we support each other to deliver the best possible outcomes
- We work on a hybrid basis, meaning that some days you’ll be out delivering, some days you will be working from an office and some days (if you wish) you will be able to work from home.
Empowering Everyone
We are big believers in potential, possibility and the power of different ideas. We are always searching for ways to encourage, respect and enable everyone to be the best they can be. We want to represent the diverse communities we serve. We welcome applications from all individuals, especially those from groups that are currently underrepresented in the organisation, as shown in our Workforce Equality Report.
