Main description

Propel your career surrounded by a diverse team of innovative, goal-oriented individuals as an apprentice with us. You will gain a comprehensive understanding of our continuous manufacturing process. You will develop the skills and knowledge to manufacture Fibre optic cables and micro ducts utilising polymer extrusion technology.

Be part of a team who will undertake a range of supporting tasks including:

Using your mechanical skills to undertake production engineering set-up activities. Operation of cable extrusion lines.
Utilising industry leading equipment and technologies to acquire production data.
Maintenance and cleaning of tooling and equipment.
Ensure excellent quality by carrying out inspection of the finished products.
We train our employees on-the-job to learn the continuous process of cable extrusion. Once trained, you will become a valuable process technician capable of running cable extrusion lines from start to finish.

Entry requirements

GCSE or equivalent Maths, English and Science (Grade A*-C/9-4) Essential

Engineering technician Level 3 (A level)

  • The Apprentice will be working towards the Level 3 Engineering Technician Apprenticeship Standard (Mechatronics Maintenance Technician Pathway)
  • Qualifications include Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence)
  • Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competence), and Level 3 Diploma or Extended Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge)

The Apprentice will be working towards a Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competence) - Mechatronics Maintenance Technician Pathway
College attendance will be at Colchester Institute Campus and online

Location is remote so applicants will require to have their own transport.

Future prospects

As part of the apprenticeship scheme in partnership with Colchester Institute on day release, you will gain an Engineering Technician Apprenticeship certificate, EAL Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence), EAL Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge), EAL Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering – Mechatronics Maintenance Technician (Development Competence).

Further progression may well be available in other areas within our sector, upon successful completion of the apprenticeship.
