Main description
The overall purpose of this role will be to work as a member of the Health Care Team offering directed treatments to meet the needs of patients under indirect supervision of the Registered Clinical Professionals.
Principal Responsibilities:
• To undertake patient care which may include general health checks, blood pressure recordings, spirometry, diabetic foot screening, ECGs, smoking cessation, influenza & B12 vaccinations, urine testing, wound care, assisting in minor procedures, stocking measurements, dementia screening and other clinical tasks as the role develops.
• Cleaning of clinical equipment and work area ensuring that infection control measures are in place.
• To liaise with clinical staff/pathology lab and advise patients of their results via the telephone.
• To provide admin support for housebound patients requiring INR tests at home, including the input of results and referrals.
To maintain and order stock required for the clinical team and for infection control, working within a budget.
• To ensure that emergency equipment is serviced and stock levels maintained.
• To produce pathology request forms for long term condition reviews.
• To assist the practice’s research administrator.
• To act as a chaperone during examinations.
• Telephoning patients to confirm their attendance for long term condition reviews or with test results.
• Prepare patient samples ready for daily collection by the hospital.
• To record and enter data in a timely fashion and accurately on the clinical computer system.
• To provide additional administration support.
• Any other duties as requested.

5 GCSE's level 4 or above including Maths & English - Desirable

Training to be Provided
The learner will be studying the Healthcare Support Worker Level 2 Apprenticeship Standard qualification.
Day release to West Suffolk College
Functional skills will be studied if equivalent qualifications are not held.
Things to consider
Once your skills have developed you will be working with patients of all ages in a one-to-one consultation setting.
Future Prospects
Several of our apprentices have been offered a permanent role at the practice. Many of the HCAs have then gone to university to train to be a qualified nurse. This is a great introduction to a clinical career.
