The Range’s distribution centre, located at Gateway 14 in Stowmarket, commenced operations on Sunday, July 7, with the arrival of its first shipment from Asian manufacturers. This new facility has generated over 1,000 full-time permanent jobs and includes 28,750 square feet of office space.

Main description

The Range at Gateway 14 Stowmarket is seeking a motivated and reliable Apprentice Building Maintenance Technician to join our team.

You will gain hands-on experience while working towards achieving a recognised level 2 qualification, learning a wide range of maintenance skills across electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and general building upkeep.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in carrying out routine maintenance tasks (e.g., basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and decorating work
  • Support the inspection and upkeep of building systems such as lighting, and water systems
  • Help diagnose faults and assist with repairs under supervision
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organised working environment
  • Respond to maintenance requests and log work completed
  • Learn to use tools, equipment, and materials safely
  • Assist with preventative maintenance schedules
  • Comply with health and safety regulations at all times
  • Work alongside experienced technicians to gain practical skills and knowledge
  • Participate in training sessions and complete apprenticeship coursework

Entry requirements

  • Interest in building maintenance, construction, or engineering
  • Commitment to completing an apprenticeship programme
  • Basic IT skills (for logging jobs and reports)
  • Ability to follow instructions and safety procedures

Skills and Competencies required

  • Willingness to learn and develop practical skills
  • Basic understanding of DIY or building maintenance (desirable but not essential)
  • Good problem-solving ability
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Good communication skills
  • Reliable, punctual, and motivated attitude
