Allgood Services are looking for individuals who are passionate about bricklaying and other aspects of building to join as an Apprentice Bricklayer. As part of the apprenticeship you will be studying a Level 2 Bricklaying Apprenticeship which will include both theory and practical work with one of Redrow’s chosen training partners.

Main description

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

Your time as an Apprentice will be split between working on-site with an experienced tradesperson learning from their expertise and college-based study that will leave you with the essential industry qualification. It takes time to learn the quality and skills necessary to be the best and we are looking for candidates who are willing to commit the time needed to achieve the best.

As a Bricklaying Apprentice with ASL, you will join the next generation of house builders, fulfil your passion and start gaining skills needed to build the incredible communities that ASL are well known for.

Key responsibilities for the role are:

  • With mentoring support, set out and build brickwork, including complex arches and surrounding brickwork, curved on plan, concave and convex brickwork and battered brickwork
  • Mixing mortar by hand or with a mechanical mixer
  • Laying the bricks on top of each other and applying the mortar with a trowel
  • Shape and trim bricks/blocks using hammers, chisels and power tools. Use of laser levels, spirit levels, optical levels and string lines to check that courses are straight, horizontally and vertically, and laid to a gauge
  • Operating equipment on site in a safe manner
  • At all times comply with company policies, procedures and instructions
  • Ensure familiarity with ASL’s Health, Safety and Environmental policies and comply with employee responsibilities
  • Contribute to improving the business, protecting and enhancing the reputation of the company by putting forward new ideas and, when requested to do so, implementing

Training to be provided

An apprenticeship includes regular training with a college or other training organisation. At least 20% of your working hours will be spent training or studying.

Your training plan
Bricklayer Level 2 Apprenticeship Standard:

The bricklayer apprentice would be assigned an assessor through the College, who would typically come out to visit in the workplace to assess workplace skills & competence.

The practical period is the time dedicated to the development of the knowledge, skills and behaviours for your apprenticeship which includes the following components:

Level 2 Diploma in Bricklaying (Practical and Theory upskilling)
Level 2 Portfolio of Evidence
English and maths at Level 1 must be achieved

The knowledge side would be provided via an online portal VLE (Virtual Learning Environment), and assignments/ evidence of work/ portfolio would be checked via an online Smart Assessor. If required, to upskill English & maths will be in additional commitment to this Apprenticeship.

Essential qualifications
GCSE in: English (grade 3/D) and Maths (grade 3/D)

Let the company know about other relevant qualifications and industry experience you have. They can adjust the apprenticeship to reflect what you already know.

Things to consider

The position is physical, candidates will be moving and on their feet all day. Work is mainly on construction sites and external works involved.

It’s essential the successful applicant holds a driver’s licence.

Must have a CSCS Card before staring work (this can be arranged if not already registered). The apprenticeship start date is September 2025. Although the college course won’t start until Autumn 2025, we have starts available in Summer/ Autumn period.

Future prospects

To become a fully qualified bricklayer.  It is intended that - providing you successfully complete your apprenticeship - you will continue your employment with us.
