Main description
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, highly motivated and proactive Pharmacy Technician or Pharmaceutical Scientist to join our growing and forward thinking department as a Pharmacy Technician /Pharmacy Scientist for Aseptic Services. You will be involved in the effective and safe delivery of the Pharmacy Aseptic Service including supervision of the day-to-day workload and training of staff. You will ensure that staff undertake activities following departmental operating procedures and work in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practice, Good Clinical Practice and Good Distribution Practice.
We welcome applications from Pharmacy Technicians and other Scientists such as Pharmaceutical Scientists eligible for membership registration with a relevant body. We will provide you with a comprehensive induction and training covering all aspect of the work, support from senior pharmacy staff and an environment to develop further.
The successful candidate will have the chance to develop and extend their technical, aseptic and managerial skills. We encourage and support for this role specialist and postgraduate aseptic services training in addition to Leadership & Management training.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for the day-to-day running and supervision of the Pharmacy Aseptic Unit under the management of the Senior Pharmacy Technicians to ensure safe, effective and timely provision of Aseptic products to all patients.
The post holder will be responsible for:
- participating in staff training;
- aseptic manufacture of products;
- checking activities;
- generating worksheets and labels using the Pharmacy computer system;
- assisting the Aseptic Services Managers in the development of new services for the Trust;
- advising the Senior Aseptic Technicians on amending work practices and documentation to improve the running of the service;
- maintaining equipment according to procedures and actively encouraging adherence to all procedures relating to the aseptic services department and GMP;
- quality assurance activities.
Person specification
Essential criteria
- BTEC - Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent
- Eligible for registration with GPhC or relevant membership body
- Certificate in checking competency verified bi-annually
- Eligible and willing to undertake Pre and Inprocess checking accreditation with completion within 12 months
Desirable criteria
- Registered with GPhC or eligible for membership with relevant body
- Pre and In-process checking accreditation (regional or local)
- Post qualification training in aseptic services
Previous Experience
Essential criteria
- Working knowledge of aseptic services
- Technical ability and knowledge in cytotoxic and aseptic reconstitution
Desirable criteria
- Direct and recent experience working in an aseptic unit.
- Experience in staff supervision
- Experience in training staff in aseptic preparation
- Record of continual professional development
- Stock management experience

- Knowledge of Ascribe- manufacturing module
- Awareness of GMP legislation and standards
- Up to date and good understanding of pharmacy law, ethics and responsibilities
