About us
The Sheringham Shoal Offshore Wind Farm is operated by Equinor and owned by Equinor, Equitix and the Green Investment Group through Scira Offshore Energy Limited.
The wind farm, which contains 88 wind turbines, is located on a 35km2 site 9-17 miles off the coast of Norfolk. Each year it generates sufficient clean, renewable energy to power 220,000 UK homes.
Sheringham Shoal Wind Farm Visitor Centre
The Sheringham Shoal Offshore Wind Farm Visitor Centre was opened in early 2011.
It contains interactive items, films, a model and educational panels so people can learn about climate change and renewable energy in general, and about the development, construction and operation of the Sheringham Shoal Wind Offshore Wind Farm in particular.
It also puts offshore wind energy into context in North Norfolk, outlining the historic importance of wind to the local community - as well as plans for the future.
The Visitor Centre is located in The Mo, the iconic building on Sheringham’s east promenade, which underwent a £1 million refurbishment to become the new home to the Sheringham Museum and the town’s enviable collection of lifeboats.
Bursary Scheme
Since 2013 a Bursary Scheme to help young people from lower income families in Norfolk to study engineering at one of three Norfolk colleges has been available through the Sheringham Shoal Community Fund.
In 2019 funding will once again be available for 20 students to each receive a bursary of £500 per annum to study the BTEC Diploma in Engineering level 3 (or equivalent) through to graduation. In addition to the College of West Anglia in Kings Lynn, East Coast College in Great Yarmouth and City College in Norwich, students studying at UTCN (University Technical College Norfolk) in Norwich for this qualification will also be eligible for a bursary.
