About us

When we started back in the 80s, getting insurance was a long, complicated business. You had to go through a broker and it was all a bit of a pain.

So, we decided it should be easier, by offering insurance over the phone. That's how we started the direct insurance revolution – and with strong values, distinctive brands and great people, we’re still leading the way today.

Our mission is to make insurance much easier and better value for customers. We want to be known for treating our customers better than anyone else. We want to work in a way that’s more creative and more effective than other companies. Put simply, we want our people to lead the industry in every area.

Early Careers

Meet some of our Apprentices:

Our apprentices get a wide range of support, as well as first -class training and the chance to contribute to our business from the off. Find out what they enjoy most

Lloyd – Commercial and Underwriting Apprentice

What would you say has been the most interesting/rewarding project you have been involved in and why?
The most interesting project for me has been my current work around the renewal algorithm. It’s taking quite a simple concept and applying it to improve the sophistication of the current incumbent. This has given me the opportunity to work with and learn new software and analysis tools, which I haven't used before, so it’s been challenging, yet rewarding.

What do you enjoy most about your job?
Getting stuck into numbers to observe where we can make changes to optimise our profitability and growth.

What’s your passion outside of work?
I love to travel. I’ve been fortunate to go abroad three times this year and have big trips booked to Thailand and the USA next year!

As an apprentice what has surprised you most about working at DLG and in the insurance industry?
For me, it’s DLG's focus on their staff and well-being, allowing employees to maintain a good work/life balance.

Bethany - Insurance Claims Handler

As an apprentice what has surprised you most about working at DLG and in the insurance industry?
The difference between being treated as an apprentice and a normal advisor has surprised me. Also, that insurance forms a massive part of people’s lives when claiming, because the process for, say, drying or redecorating takes a long time – I’ve never experienced this before.

So if “DLG is always evolving” what would you say about yourself “I am always ______”?
I am always caring, honest and reliable.

When do you have the most fun at work?
When we’re all up to speed with work and we can have a chat – everyone’s in a good mood and there’s no strain with work.

What do you enjoy most about your job?
Making customers happy after a traumatic event.

Ben – Customer Service Apprentice

How long have you worked for DLG and what do you most enjoy about your role?
I have worked at DLG for just over one and a half years now. The aspect of the job role I enjoy the most is interacting with team leaders /managers and being able to support the business with additional duties This has been a great development opportunity that has also develop my skills further. I also enjoy interacting with customers and building a rapport with them. I get great job satisfaction knowing I have provided customers with the best service possible and that I have done the best job possible (job satisfaction).

What has surprised you most about working at DLG and in the insurance industry?
The thing that has surprised me the most about working at DLG is how it is fun to come to work because of the people you work. Also not having to wear a suit really surprised me, as being in the insurance profession you imagine it to be like a scene from the wolf of wall street.

So if “DLG is always evolving” what would you say about yourself “I am always ______”?
I would say that I am always developing myself to be better at my job and developing my skills to help with my future career.
