About Us

Cancer Research UK is the world's leading independent charity dedicated to cancer research. We carry out scientific research to help prevent, diagnose and treat cancer. We have discovered new ways to beat cancer that together have saved hundreds of thousands of lives across the world.

More than one in three of us will get cancer at some point in our lives. Our groundbreaking work, funded almost entirely by the general public, will ensure that millions more people survive.  Over the past 40 years survival has doubled, thanks to the great progress research has made. Find out more about how our research has already made a difference to patients and what we are funding right now.

Volunteers are a vital part of the Cancer Research UK Family and get involved in all aspects of our life-saving work.  We also employ over 3,500 people.

Volunteering with Cancer Research UK

We rely on volunteers to support our pioneering, life-saving research in many ways. Whether you want to help in a shop, support our participants at events, or have specialist skills to share, we have the volunteer role for you. Develop your skills, gain experience, have fun and help beat cancer sooner.

Event Volunteering - each year, thousands of people take part in our events so we can continue beating cancer. Join our team of incredible volunteers to help make this happen!

Corporate Volunteering - if you're looking for time out of the office with your colleagues while making a difference, find out more about our events or get in touch

Shop Volunteering - every shirt you steam, book you sell, or shopper you serve will help us bring about a world where everybody lives longer, better lives, free from the fear of cancer.

Community Fundraising - We aim to make fundraising for us fun and rewarding. There are many ways that you can fundraise and each one has a huge impact on our life-saving research.

Campaign for Change  - Would you like to support our political campaigning?

The minimum age for volunteering in our shops is 18. If you are aged between 16 -18 you may still be able to volunteer in our shops but you must be on a recognised scheme, for example the Duke of Edinburgh.
