For over 40 years we have trained young people to go on and excel in the thrilling world of horse racing. Set in over 150 acres and with incredible facilities including 4 state of the art riding arenas and canters, together with jockey training suite and gyms, and 70 former racehorses, the British Racing School is the perfect place to jumpstart your career in racing.

Foundation Course
The first step towards working in horseracing, this is an apprenticeship programme which opens the door to this multi-million pound industry. Your journey starts here!
An apprenticeship programme which opens the door to the racing industry. Our Foundation Course is the ideal place to start your career in racing. Whether you have some experience of riding and horses, or are a complete beginner, the British Racing School’s Foundation Course is the perfect stepping-stone to turn your passion for horses into a rewarding career working with some of the finest equine athletes on the planet.
- 16-24 year olds
- No experience necessary
- No academic qualifications needed – we will help you gain your English and Maths GCSEs if necessary
- We do have a weight limit of 11 stone / 69kg for the Foundation Course (If you are over 5’11 and weigh more than 11 stone, please get in touch to discuss options)
The course is split into two parts:
- Level 1 Diploma which takes place at the British Racing School over 12 or 18 weeks (depending on experience), and
- Level 2 Diploma where we will find you a full time paid job working in Horse Racing Yard where you can continue your training and begin an apprenticeship, fully supported by The British Racing School
Level 2 in Racehorse Care and Exercise
Our Level 2 in Racehorse Care and Exercise allows you to combine your love of horses with the chance to gain qualifications to work in one of the country’s most exciting sports. The course is aimed at school leavers aged 16-18 and is perfect for those completing their GCSEs this summer and wanting to jumpstart their equestrian career.
- 16-18 year olds – no experience necessary
- 2 year course at the British Racing School in Newmarket, starting in September 2025
- Term time study with attendance at the British Racing School 3 times a week
- Gain a Level 1 and Level 2 Diploma in Racehorse Care and Exercise
