Virtual Reality (VR) Developers specialise in designing and implementing software for use in VR environments, using their creative, 3D and programming skills. VR provides simulated, immersive experiences in virtual spaces or worlds, usually employing headsets to deliver 3D images and sound to the wearer, along with head or posture tracking technologies. VR experiences are offered as entertainment, video games and increasingly as learning aids for education and industry – making a positive impact on reducing travel and equipment requirements during early training.

To become a VR Developer you may benefit from computer / software degrees, including those related to video game design, but like some other software-related careers, university is not essential providing you have the appropriate skills and experience honed through other projects. Knowledge of 3D environment engines such as Unity and Unreal will be key, as well as some common programming languages such as C++, C#, Java and Python.

Salary Range £25,000-£40,000
