A Solutions Architect oversees entire software or technology solutions within an organisation or when producing products and services for external clients. They assess the business requirements and constraints for creating or upgrading both software and hardware systems, before designing the solution and workable plans that can then be implemented by other developers and engineers. Efficiencies in large scale IT solutions can help reduce energy wastage, cooling requirements and avoidable maintenance and administration - contributing to greener computing.
To become a Solutions Architect you need a degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science or something similar like Information Technology. Additional project management or business analysis knowledge will be extremely useful due to the overarching role you will play in these type of projects – software engineering and hardware concepts whilst vital are unlikely to be enough on their own, though you could develop those skills whilst you initially fill more technical development roles.
Salary range: £35,000-£85,000
