A Solar Design Engineer develops comprehensive designs for solar energy systems and layouts, prioritising efficient usage of resources while meeting technical and safety standards. Solar energy solutions from the smallest domestic application through to large scale solar farm projects are key to reducing our reliance on fossil fuels and support the UK’s drive for net zero by 2050. Solar design engineers employ specialist design and simulation software to create and analyse solar energy system models, shading analysis and energy generation predictions. They work closely with project managers, contractors, and other engineers to manage project risks and ensure the success of the project.
To become a Solar Design Engineer, you will need a degree in Renewable Energy, Electrical Engineering or something related to Technical Design. Excellent design and analysis skills are vital, along with project and stakeholder management. You should take additional solar technical certifications to increase your knowledge and suitability.
Salary range: Starting at £30,000-£40,000
