Nuclear Engineers design the equipment and create the operating procedures used in nuclear power plants. They will also research and develop ways that we can benefit from using nuclear energy such as in medical treatments, agriculture, energy and other industries.
Entry Requirements
You can get into this role through a degree, an apprenticeship or a graduate training scheme
University
You could do a degree in a subject such as:
- Nuclear engineering
- Chemical engineering
- Electrical engineering
- Maths
- Mechanical engineering
- Physics
You will usually need 2 or 3 A levels or equivalent including maths and physics for your degree course
Graduate Training Scheme
Once you have completed your degree you may be able to get onto a graduate training scheme. Go to Nuclear Graduates for further information
Apprenticeship
You get into this role through a nuclear scientist or engineering degree apprenticeship
You will usually need
- 4 or 5 GCSEs at grades 9 to 4 (A* to C) including maths and science
- A levels or equivalent for a degree apprenticeship
