Manufacturing Engineers employ their skills to optimise manufacturing processes for product suitability, efficiency, cost effectiveness and other best-practice and legislative compliance.  Environmental considerations are becoming ever more important in the manufacturing sector to align with both net zero commitments and consumers’ expectations. This career can be undertaken in numerous sectors (e.g. plastics, food and drink, pharmaceuticals etc.) and will see you working on equipment and processes both from a design and maintenance / improvement perspective.

To become a Manufacturing Engineer you need to be both creative and analytical, with an aptitude for technology and a robust understanding of the specific manufacturing sector you are working in.  A common qualification route is an Engineering degree – related to the specific type of engineering you wish to specialise in, though trainee level routes are possible through HNC, HND and foundation degree courses.  Experience and further technical qualifications then allow you to progress further.

Salary range: £25,000-£45,000
