Mid green job

A Hydraulic Modeller works with computer simulations of fluid systems to understand how they behave under certain infrastructure conditions.  Hydraulic modelling is used to plan new fresh water pipe layouts and sewers, and to troubleshoot and improve existing networks, aiming to aid maintenance operations, eliminate wastage and address environmental impacts. Professionals use specialised CAD and GIS software to create computer models of water-carrying infrastructure, and calibrate them using real data from sensors to get the model to behave as closely as possible to the real thing.  Various scenarios can then be tested to assess the network’s feasibility or capacity when exposed to certain conditions, like flooding, bottlenecking  or burst pipes.

To become a Hydraulic Modeller you will need a STEM degree and strong analytical and mathematical skills, along with an aptitude for reading and interpreting data.  You will also need to be good at presenting your findings and recommendations.

Salary range: Starting at £28,000-£34,000
