Dark green job

Hybrid/EV Technicians are responsible for repairing both fully electric vehicles and hybrids - which use a fossil fuelled combustion engine as well as electric motors.    Electric vehicles are key in the government’s long-term net zero strategy, whilst hybrids are an interim measure that can improve fuel efficiency and reduce emissions.  This role will see you working on braking, suspension, steering, fuel injection, electrical systems and engine transmission. You might work in a general garage, a specialist dealership or out on the road for a roadside rescue service.

To become a Hybrid/EV Technician you will benefit from specific qualifications at levels 2 and 3, which are normally clearly labelled as being related to ‘Electric’ or ‘EV’ and ‘Hybrid’ vehicles – often also mentioning ‘Vehicle Technician’ or similar.  Apprenticeships are also available as an access route.  You will need to show an aptitude for diagnosing issues and following technical procedures and safety checks.

Salary range: Starting at £30,000-£40,000
