Job Description
A Financial Trader buys and sells shares, bonds and assets for individuals and banks. They set prices and execute deals trying to maximum profits and minimise losses. They will act on behalf of a client placing orders and advising on market developments. Their aim is to buy low and sell high.
Entry Requirements
You will usually need a degree to get into this role but may be able to start through higher apprenticeship.
University
You could take a degree course in a relevant subject such as:
- Economics
- Finance
- Business administration
- Maths
For your degree you will usually need:
- 2 or 3 A levels or equivalent
Once you have completed your degree you could apply for a place on a company's graduate scheme, you will usually need at least an upper second class degree to get in.
Apprenticeship
You may be able to get into the role through a higher or degree apprenticeship in financial services or similar.
You will usually need:
- 4 or 5 GCSEs at grades 9 to 4 (A* to C) and A levels, or equivalent, for a higher or degree apprenticeship
Career Tips
Relevant work experience would be useful.
You will need to register as an 'approved person' by the Financial Conduct Authority
